How to Safely Jog with Your Dog at Night
There
are so many folks who would rather jog in the evening with their pet than
during the day or in the morning. However, during the winter and fall months,
the shorter days mean it’ll get darker sooner; there isn’t as much daylight for
your evening or morning run with your dog. However, it does not mean you can slack
off for a few months. You simply have to take some additional precautions.
Time to Reflect
Black
might go well with everything; however, it also is camouflaged by the darkness.
If you have plans to run with your dog in the evening, make certain that you dress
in clothes that can easily be seen at night, and attach illuminated strips to
your pup’s collar. There are an abundance of dog accessories in the market
which are ideal for jogging at night, such as LED glowing dog collars, reflective vests and leashes.
Be Aware of your
Surroundings
Keep
on your toes and keep alert to everything around you. It’s possible to see that
vehicle heading your way; however, that does not mean the motorists can see
you. Be aware at driveways, stop signs, and intersections, and never assume
that an automobile is going to stop for the two of you.
Go Against the Flow
If
there isn’t any sidewalk for you and your dog and you must jog on the street,
always jog against traffic. It also may help to use a wide-brimmed hat that
protects your eyes from oncoming lights. Keep the dog on a shorter leash yet
make certain that it isn’t short enough for you to stumble over.
Turn Off Your Music
A
soundtrack might make the run go faster yet turn the music off and leave your
ear buds at home. Not just will it distract you from hidden traffic and
dangers, it is rude to your running buddy.
